Examples of Performance-based design - Thinking of goals and beyond the codes - Create ceiling “cells” to contain smoke and heat. - Intensify sprinkler coverage beyond codes requirements. - Increase sizes of exhaust fans for better smoke control. - Specify fire rated, higher impact glazing. - Specify window sprinklers to create a fire-rated wall. - Specify high performance steel. - Specify sloping walkways that have less than a 12:1 rise. - Specify all spaces to be adaptable, if not accessible rather than just percentages required by law.
